Beginner Watercolor Class

A full-day introduction to watercolor for complete beginners who want to understand not only what to paint, but how to approach a watercolor painting from start to finish.

During this 5-hour class, we’ll work step by step through the watercolor process—from creating a simple sketch and choosing colors to building layers and adding expressive touches.

We’ll create 3–4 small studies, each designed to introduce and practice a different skill. We may explore subjects such as fruits, trees, water and simple landscapes, depending on the class.

Along the way, you’ll learn essential techniques including washes, layering, water control, color mixing, splashing, creating texture, soft and hard edges, and knowing when to let the paper dry before continuing. In the final part, you’ll bring everything together in a painting of your own choice.

The aim is to help you understand why and when to use each technique, so you can apply what you learn to your own paintings afterwards.

No previous watercolor experience is needed. The class is taught in a small group, with demonstrations, individual guidance and plenty of time to practice.

By the end of the day, you’ll leave with several finished watercolor studies, a clearer understanding of the painting process, and a practical set of techniques you can continue using afterwards.
